It has been my distinct privilege and honor, to
serve as your Orange County District 6 Commissioner.
I have worked diligently to provide quality services
and leadership with integrity to meet the needs of all the citizens
of Orange County. Our challenge as a Commission and one of my motivating
factors to run for re-election is maintaining and improving those
services in a cost efficient manner during difficult economic times.
I believe my record of consistency, integrity, and prudence is something
I can stand on during the upcoming campaign and I look forward to
discussing issues regarding Orange County, in particular District
6, in the months ahead.
The effects of the nation’s economic hardship
have hit Orange County hard. The Commission is fighting every day
to protect local families during these tough economic times. We’re
also working every day to make sure that government and its programs
work for people. Almost four years ago, I pledged to the voters
of this County to:
- Serve as a loyal public official, remaining
accountable and accessible to each and every constituent;
- Make Orange County a safe, responsible community;
- Increase recreational and career opportunities
for our youth;
- Create stable, healthy and viable neighborhoods;
and
- Strengthen Orange County's economy by increasing
private investment in jobs and minority business opportunities.
In the days that have followed, time and again
I have ventured out to face the challenges within my district head
on. I made a difference during my first term as the District 6 Commissioner,
but my job isn't finished yet. I helped increase opportunities for
family wage jobs, but we still need more. Our neighborhoods are
safer, but not safe enough. Protecting your quality of life in Orange
County is my commitment, and that commitment will never end. I am
grateful for the support and encouragement along the way, and most
importantly I am thankful for the support of my husband, Anthony
and our close friends and family who we refer to as our community
village.
I am committed to the dynamic leadership role
that being a County Commissioner encompasses. Unlike the state and
federal branches of government, there is no separation of powers
requiring the Board of Commissioners to function as all three. We
direct and oversee the administrative team as the executive branch;
we enact ordinances that are enforceable countywide as the legislative
branch; and we render judgments as a quasi-judicial panel –providing
objective review for land use decisions as the judicial branch.
The variety and complexity of issues facing county government daily
must strike a delicate balance between individual preference, community
outcry, and the good of the community as a whole.
As you become familiar with my website, take a
look at my accomplishments during my first term and my ideas and
plans to serve the residents of this County. My campaign will focus
on my record of accomplishments, the promises I’ve kept and
the issues that will face us in the future. We are at a crossroads
where we will have to work hard to maintain the quality of life
we cherish. The decisions made today will impact residents for the
next 20 years and beyond.
I want to continue this work! I am committed
to a vision of Orange County where we and future generations can
experience rich and rewarding lives. For me, Orange County is more
than just a place to live—it's my home. We are blessed to
live in one of the best counties in Florida and we enjoy an unbelievable
quality of life. I hope that we can continue to work together and
that on November 2, 2010, I can count on your vote.
